Charitable Community Supported Agriculture
Charitable Community Supported Agriculture consists of local faith-based and civic organizations and individuals who pledge support to The Community Farm so that this precious resource becomes spiritually The Community’s Farm, with growers and community providing mutual support both financially and physically and sharing the work and rewards of agricultural production, narrowing the food gap for the poor and hungry of our region.
The Community Farm is one of the oldest and last remaining farms in Santa Fe and continues to be a widely regarded model of small-scale urban food production, farmland preservation, agricultural education and charitable giving. Applying appurtenant water rights to 11 agricultural acres, the farm produces diverse fruits and vegetables, which are donated to local charities for distribution to the hungry, homeless and disabled of Santa Fe. These charities include: Food for Santa Fe; Kitchen Angels; Food Depot; Salvation Army; St. Elizabeth’s Shelter; Bienvenidos; St. John’s Soup Kitchen; and La Luz Shelter.
Shareholders of The Community Farm commit to pay $300 per share annually to cover in advance the anticipated costs of the farming operation. During the growing season, they will be asked to contribute 30 person hours of work [to the extent of their ability] as scheduled by the Executive Director, Linda Marple, through a designated contact person. In return, they will receive shares in the farm’s bounty — to be distributed to local charitable organizations addressing hunger in our community.
The purpose of the farm is to connect our community to the land and encourage people to participate directly in growing food for those in need. The farm’s unique location provides a priceless opportunity for public education regarding the relationships of land, culture and local food security.
Please choose to become a Community Farm Shareholder. The Community Farm welcomes your input in farm decisions, your physical participation in farm operations, and your feedback through an annual survey.
It’s our community. It’s your farm.
